Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority Apartment Details

Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority provides housing assistance to low income residents through the management of programs such as Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8. These programs are income based and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD. There may be waiting lists for rentals or vouchers and at times the lists may close to new applicants based on the size of and length of wait on the lists. If you are in need of housing assistance in the area please contact the Housing Authority directly to obtain more information about eligibility requirements, availability of rentals or vouchers, the status of any waiting lists and their application procedures.

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) administers several programs that provide rental housing assistance for low and moderate income families and individuals in Fairfax County, on behalf of the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA).
The Housing Choice Voucher, Project-Based Voucher, and Public Housing programs are designed to provide affordable rental housing for low income families. Single persons may also apply; however, priority is given to single persons who are elderly or disabled. Housing units are available for working singles at two FCRHA properties. In the Housing Choice Voucher Program, families seek and select their own units within program guidelines through participating private landlords. In this program, eligible residents pay approximately 30-40% of their income for rent. In Public Housing, residents have a choice of paying 30% of their income, or an affordable fixed rent based on the development where they will live. There are waiting lists for all programs; waiting lists may temporarily close to new applicants.
For status on the waiting list, visit our website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/rha or call the Housing Waiting List Information Line at 703-449-9050 for current information. Placement of applicants on the waiting list is determined by use of the Priority System on page 3. To apply for any of the housing programs, visit us in person, call the Housing Application Center at 703-385-3662 or TTY 703-385-3662, or apply online at: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/rha.
